“The Camino doesn’t end in Santiago. Santiago is where it begins”
Laurie Denett this Canadian writer, the author of nine books and numerous translations, was born in Toronto but has spent much of her professional life in London. She was introduced to Galicia during a pilgrimage from Chartres, France, to Santiago de Compostela in 1986. Later on, she went on pilgrimages from London to Rome (1989) and from Canterbury to Jerusalem (1992). On these journeys, through her radio broadcasts and articles in the press, she encouraged donations to the multiple sclerosis associations of twelve countries. She was also chairperson of the UK’s Confraternity of St. James from 1995 to 2003.
In 2010, she moved to live near O Cebreiro and created a replica of the labyrinth of the Cathedral of Chartres in her garden, which became part of the international network of “Quiet Gardens”, private spaces open to anyone for relaxation and meditation.
It is the first Quiet Garden in Spain, which became the nineteenth country with one of these spaces. [She has not applied for or received any subsidy for the garden]
